Meet the owner
Hello, my name is Rich Thomas. I am the owner and executive officer of HomeChex Property Inspections. I have been living in Bolivia NC with my wife for the past 18years. We moved to the coast after living most of our lives in Northern Virginia. My son RJ graduated from UNC Chapel Hill last spring and has moved to Atlanta to begin his acting career. My wife Kris, owns and operates The Pilates Spa, a health and fitness studio, here in Brunswick county.
After graduating from college in 1984, I entered the U.S. Army as an officer and service as 18A on a Special Forces Detachment Team for many years. I love my county and proud to have served.
After traveling the globe in the army, I met my wife and retired from the military business. I decided to win the hearts and minds of our own younger generation and became a teacher. I taught High School History at Chantilly Va for 10 years. There is nothing harder than a public school teaching job, but nothing more rewarding.
Unfortunately, a teacher's salary was not going to make it when my wife became pregnant with RJ. I took my savings and invested in a GOLD's Gym Franchise in Richmond Va.. With the experience in owning and operating a successful Franchise Gym I was offered the Southeast Regional Sales Director for Gold's Gym International. Through my travels along the east coast I fell in love with the Brunswick Beach area. When it was time to leave the corporate world, I knew where I was moving to.
As I was transitioning from corporate life to self employment, I worked for a a local Renovation and Maintenance Company in Brunswick County called TOTAL HOME Repairs. For several years I handled the marketing end of the business by offering home owners FREE preventive maintenance checks as a lead generation tool for the business.
These maintenance inspections lead to becoming certified as a Home Inspector and licensed by the North Carolina Home Inspector Licensure Board (NCHILB). I received my formal training at the premier Home Inspection Training Center (THITC) in Burlington NC. With this new knowledge and skill set, I decided to level up and create my own Home Inspection company, HOME CHEX Property Inspection Service.
I am blessed to have found such a beautiful community to live in and proud to serve the many hundreds of happy home buyers with comprehensive home inspection services. At HOMECHEX Inspection, I pride myself in following high standards and providing reliable, professional service to all of my customers.
